Hugh Seenan is one of the United Kingdom’s most distinguished horn players and a Professor of Horn at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London since 1985.
Hugh was Honorary Chairman of the British Horn Society from 2001- 2005, a charity that supports horn playing throughout the UK and in 2006 he was made an Honorary Member of the BHS.
He was born in Glasgow Scotland and he studied horn as a junior exhibitioner at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and later at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
He joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of twenty and he was Principal Horn of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra from 1979 to 1984 and Principal Horn of the London Symphony Orchestra from 1984 to 1997.
He has given master classes in Australia, Denmark, France, Holland, Norway, Japan, Spain, Sweden, United Arab Emirates and the USA and coached the brass sections of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, the National Brass Band of Great Britain and the European Union Youth Orchestra. He has performed as a horn soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra, City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Hugh has played horn on many movie soundtracks including solo horn on the music for the films Aliens, Braveheart, Gladiator,
The Mask of Zorro, Willow and Cutthroat Island
He appears as a horn soloist on the London Horn Sound and Guildhall Horn Soloists recordings for Cala Records, the Tippet Sonata for Four Horns for EMI Records and two albums with the London Symphony Brass for Regis Records. In December 2008 Cala records released a new recording, the London Horn Sound album Give It One, the first ever French horn jazz big band featuring Hugh as a horn soloist.
