Born in Birmingham in 1963, Owen Slade studied with Fred Devereux. In 1981 he began his studies at the RCM with John Jenkins and occasionally John Fletcher. In 1986 he became a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Owen is one of London’s most versatile tuba players. He has performed in many different styles, working with such artists as Blur, Barry Manilow, Quincy Jones and also featuring on Carl Jenkins’ Adiemus.
His playing can be heard on many film soundtracks, such as Event Horizon, Bless the Child and Rugrats in Paris, Various James Bond Soundtracks and on various albums and television programmes. Owen’s solo career has included the world première of Harrison Birtwistle’s The Cry of Anubis. He also performs and records regularly with London Brass, and is very much in demand as a chamber musician.
