After reading a article in the Wind Player  magazine I realized there was no or little information about theire line of work. Including the fact that there is no appreciation for there work;

Theire names are never mentioned !!

I found out that theire line of work is hard, very special and political. The brass players listed are world's finest.

I am a brass players myself and of course a film and soundtrack lover, finding out more about theire kind of work and getting to know these people is my main objective.

In rescent years I have personally met : Malcolm McNab, Tim Morrison, Bill Reichenbach and Dick Nash, Rick Baptist and Phil Teele.

As a semi-amateur player my goal is to play as many film scores possible, my greatest wish is of course to play a original soundtrack recording in the future.

Most of the players I have met think about themselves as normal musicians who are just playing to make a living.

It is hard to get in contact with some of these top players, and to get them involved with the "Brass Players in Film Music" web site- project.

Theire line of work is very political and I think that's one of the reasons some of them don't want to get much publicity.

LOOK OUT !!

Most of the soundtracks are done with more players than a normal orchestra cast.

( 3 Trumpets, 4/6 Horns, 2 Trombones, 1 Bass Trombone and 1 Tuba).

For a normal trumpet section of three or four are sometimes 6 or more players used.

For example the First Knight recording was done with 8 trumpet players, but the music was written for four trumpets. Some times players have other jobs or just don't have the time and the energy to play 12 day in a row of 3 sessions a day.

Also there is a lot of doubling been done, composers are always looking for some new sounds and the top players double !

Horn : Wagner tuba

Trumpets : Bb, C, Eb, D, Piccolo, Flugelhorn, Cornet......

Trombones : Small bore, Large bore, Bass Trombone, Chimbasso, Euphonium and Tuba......

Tuba : Bass Trombone, Contra bass Trombone, Trombone, Chimsasso, Euphonium

Even I have not yet found all the players of the soundtracks I have selected, I am happy to have met some of them and they have been a great help creating this web site with me.

[ Malcolm McNab, Jim Self, Bill Reichenbach, Douglas Yeo, Carmen Falzone and Dick Nash ]

Of course we must not forget the composers !

Without them it would not even be possible to play and hear this great music.

in random order ( my favorite)-

[ John Williams - James Horner - Jerry Goldsmith - James Newton Howard - David Arnold - John Barry ]

To all of you thank you very much.
